Whereas it is agreed: Sheltie Rescue of Georgia, Inc., hereinafter referred to as SRG, and the Foster Home listed above are desirous of entering into a Foster Care Agreement to promote the humane and proper care of a Rescue Sheltie. SRG has been established to provide for the rescue and care of Shetland Sheepdogs who have been abandoned, neglected and/or abused by their previous owners. SRG atempts to place Rescue Shelties in temporary Foster Homes with people who will promote the aims of SRG by providing a safe, secure, affectionate and healthy environment for these Shelties. The Foster Home will personally interview potential adoptive homes who will be referred to them by SRG and will have the final say so as to who the dog is placed with.

The Foster Home acknowledges the purposes and aim of SRG and recognizes SRG's legitimate and reasonable interest in assuring the proper and humane care of Rescue Shelties during temporary placement with the Foster Home. The Foster Home represents that no member of the family has ever been charged with cruelty to animals and agrees to accept the following conditions and restrictions in order to be eligible to provide a foster home for Rescue Shelties.

  1. The Foster Home will keep the Rescue Sheltie as a pet and not restrained to an inanimate object. The Foster Home will provide the Rescue Sheltie with an adequately fenced yard and/or will leash walk/excercise said dog daily. At no time will said dog be allowed to roam free outside of a fenced enclosure.
  2. The Foster Home, when away from the home for over a 24 hour period, will advise SRG so that alternative arrangements can be made for the proper care of the Sheltie.
  3. The Rescue Sheltie may not be left in an unoccupied car or vehicle.
  4. The Foster Home acknowledges that their residence, if rented, permits pets pursuant to the lease or by special permission of the landlord or resident manager.
  5. The Foster Home will provide said Rescue Sheltie with all care and attention necessary to ensure its health and well-being. This will include providing sufficient food, water, exercise, competent veterinary care, annual shots, worming and prompt veterinary care in the event of illness or injury.
  6. The Rescue Sheltie will never be attack or guard trained or used as a property guard dog. Further, this dog will not be used in any aspect of dog/animal fighting.
  7. The Rescue Sheltie will not be abused in any manner. The Rescue Sheltie will not be beaten or otherwise treated cruelly, and will not be the subject of, or subjected to any biological, chemical, psychological or other experiment.
  8. In the event the Rescue Sheltie is lost, the Foster Home will contact SRG immediately, advertise in major local papers and make all reasonable attempts to locate said animal.
  9. The Foster Home shall not give, lease or sell or otherwise transfer custody of the Rescue Sheltie to any other person, or to any business or organization, except as desired by SRG.
  10. The Foster Home will promptly notify SRG of all changes in residence, mailing address and/or the telephone number.
  11. The Foster Home will notify SRG immediately of the Rescue Sheltie's death and/or serious illness.
  12. The Foster Home must seek approval from an officer of SRG before taking the dog to the vet. If an officer cannot be located the Foster family will proceed with vet care at their own discretion provided that they contact an officer for approval as soon as possible.
  13. Foster Homes will be reimbursed for approved or necessary vet care. Vet Care does not include dog food, grooming or boarding fees. Vet Care does include prescription diets, prescription medications, prescription dips and office visits.
  14. The Foster Home must notify SRG within 12 hours of any bite inflicted on a human by the Rescue Sheltie.
  15. The Foster Home agrees to allow inspection of the Foster Home's home and the conditions in which the Rescue Sheltie is living at any time by a representative of SRG. The Foster Home also agrees to immediately surrender custody of the Rescue Sheltie to a SRG representative upon demand.
  16. Should it be necessary to litigate in connection with any dispute concerning the care, treatment and/or custody of this animal, the Foster Home agrees to pay all court costs and reasonable attorney's fees.
  17. SRG does not warrant the temperament or behavior of the Rescue Sheltie, and is not to be held liable for any acts of the Rescue Sheltie while living with the Foster Home.
  18. The Foster Home will be responsible for having the new adoptive home sign two copies of the Adoption Agreement, one for SRG to keep and one for the new home to keep. The Foster Home will fill out the New Owner form for the new family. The Foster Home will keep Foster Record forms up to date and accurate. The Foster family may keep copies of all executed forms but should send the originals to the SRG secretary at their earliest convenience.
  19. Finally, the Foster Home acknowledges that the Foster Home enters into this Agreement freely and with good will and, at any time, may choose to formally adopt the rescued Sheltie.
